Hi all

Thanks to your efforts, PAC members and friends managed to achieve our pledge to make 50k EM Mudballs. Overall Penangites managed to exceed the target of 1Million EM Mudballs.

This Saturday, 8th August 2009, at 8am Gurney Drive (Sunrise/ McD end) there will be a EM Mudball throwing ceremony to commemorate our achievements. An initial 200k EM Mudballs will be throw into Gurney Drive beachfront (which is turning into a swamp) – and we hope in a few months time we will get back the beauty of  our beloved icon.

So do turn up to celebrate your efforts and help us throw the EM Mudballs into Gurney Drive this Saturday as the first of our Apology to Mother Earth.

PAC Members who wish to turn up, pls wear a PAC T-shirt.

Regards

Do we need to register ourselves?

  3. It’s a good thing you have initiated but I must point out what caused the Gurney Drive seafront to turn into a swamp?

Its the land that was grabbed from the sea to build the posh landed properties behind the Island Plaza.

So now we’re throwing sand in to “cure the sea” when in the first place we should not have disturbed it.

Same land grabbing is going on by IJM on the coastal highway between E-Gate & Penang bridge. So much of the sea has been filled just to construct some more malls & landed houses that few will occupy for millions of ringgits…Why wont some one stop this sort of thing as we already have a good lesson from the Gurney Drive.

The problem with malaysia is that a lot of projects are approved without (or ignoring) big-picture environment and impact studies. Penangites have taken the 1st step on 8th March 2008. We hope the new Govt does not suffer the same shortfalls.

Technically it is not sand thrown but Effective Mircoorganisms (EM – think probiotics in your Vitagen but many times stronger) to help clean up the organic swamp material. The mud/ sand is just a carrier.

The purpose of the Gurney Drive project is to create awareness among the communities in Penang. The Gurney project is just the start. if we can educate our communities on environmental awareness, perhaps one day all our waterways/ rivers and eventually the seas will be clean once more.

On the approvals of projects, the present Pg Govt knows that we speak via electoral ballots and we shall hold them to their promise of C.A.T.
